Your Weekly Pinch of AI Insights

👋 Hello Guys, what a crazy week for AI, seems like everyone wants to launch their own Large Language Models (LLMs). Last week it was Mistral AI, this week a cab company from India launched their in house uniquely Indian LLM and researchers from MBZUAI, USC, CMU, UUIUC AND USCD introduced the first ever Open-Source LLM.

Here’s what we got for you today:
Ola founder launched Indian ChatGPT
Open AI gives you 1 million dollars for your startup idea
Adobe's Spectrum 2: A Colorful Revolution in App Design
LLM360: The First Really Open-Source and Transparent Large Language Model (LLM)
Krutrim, a new LLM is in town, this time hailing from the world's 5th largest economy. Responding to a challenge set by the outspoken Sam Altman, the founder of Ola has now unveiled the Indian voice-enabled multilingual Large Language Model (LLM). While optimistic about India's potential, I am also skeptical given the history of Bhavish Aggarwal. Rumour has it he single handedly mishandled the launch of Ola electric scooters just by rushing the staff into delivery, well, y’all find that out soon enough as the beta version will be available from Jan 2024.
Once-in-a-lifetime opportunity: are you ready? 💡 OpenAI, is launching 'Converge 2', a golden opportunity for aspiring AI entrepreneurs worldwide, offering a staggering $1 million in funding. This initiative, not limited to AI experts or users of OpenAI products, is an open call for innovative ideas in AI, regardless of experience level. Applicants can apply with just their name, a one-liner about their idea, and a 30-second pitch video. The best part? No commitment to using OpenAI's APIs is required, so it's literally like saying, "Come as you are, but bring your million-dollar AI idea!

Yet another update coming from San Jose, California. Adobe is spicing things up with Spectrum 2, a vibrant upgrade to it’s design system. This update, a decade in the making, brings dynamic contrast, brighter and more accessible colors, and a new visual hierarchy, catering to a broader and more diverse user base. The rollout begins with Adobe's web and iOS apps, eventually reaching over 100 applications including heavyweights like Photoshop and Lightroom. This shows to prove that even in software, it’s never too late for a elegant makeover.
Open-source Large Language Models (LLMs) like LLaMA, Falcon, and Mistral provide options for AI professionals and researchers. But are they really open?? Sure you can tweak components like the end-model weights or inference scripts, but this also limits the clarity in training methodologies and leading to duplicated efforts. Researchers from Petuum, MBZUAI, USC, CMU, UIUC, and UCSD have introduced LLM360, an initiative advocating for fully open-sourcing LLMs, ensuring transparency and reproducibility in the end-to-end training process. LLM360 releases two 7B parameter LLMs, AMBER and CRYSTALCODER, along with training code, data, intermediate checkpoints, and detailed insights into the pre-training dataset.
